JD 227 AWS?

What size of mower deck smaller than the usual 48" will work with a JD 277 AWS (all wheel steer, 2-cylinder, hydro) and still be compatible with a bagger? My 26-year-old JD 111 is sort of wearing out all over and it looks like I'll have to face up to replacing it. I like the price and features (2-cylinder, hydro) of the new LT 111, but it sits so bloomin' high and I need to mow under lots of tree branches, yet sometimes I want to bag. I want to use it for trimming too, thus the desire for AWS and a somewhat narrower deck. Also, I want the capability of a front end snow blower.

You can get a 42" deck for it.

Yes, but do you know if a bagger for the 42" deck is available and/or compatible with the AWS version of the tractor? Does it require the powered bagger?

Sorry about the earlier post. I had a brain fart.

you CANNOT get a 42" deck with the LX277AWS, but you CAN get a 38" Deck. And you CAN get a bagger for the 38" deck.

Back to the L111 (not LT111). These are quite a tractor for the money. It can"t cut nearly as tight as the AWS, (about a 4 foot diameter vs. a 1 foot diameter) of uncut grass.

How about a commercial walkbehind?

Part of the tight mowing radius is the wide deck so I hate to go all the way down to 38", yet because of using it to mow some banks on road ditches where the going is very uneven, I don't want the end-of-deck gouging of the 48". Is the bagger available for the LX277AWS with 38" deck the $300 conventional bagger or is it the $800 powered blower type baggger?

The walk behind is out because I want to blow snow and bag with it. Further, I mow under tree branches in a windbrake and want to be low, not standing up. Then too, to be honest, I don't want to walk that much! I may end up settling for the new LT111 even with it's high seat. Though probably not the heavy duty and durability of traditional Deere machines, it sure has lots of features for the money.

I believe it is the $300 variety. I can"t see needed any more than that with a 38" deck though. The L-series are great for what they are. Just don"t compare them to a 318 - not even close to the same tractor. They also don"t cost $7000. Compare them to Husky, Sears, Cub LAWN TRACTORS. Otherwise it is like comparing an S-10 pickup to a Silverado.

Sorry about the "LX" omission.
