Hello. I am needing to replace an ignition coil on a Suburban 10 HP. The Sears # is 143-579072. Is there a site to find the Kohler model #?

I have a Sears Suburban 12 horse; model 143-602022; not sure of the year. It runs good on flat ground but when going up hill it sputters and stalls out. I am looking for an owner's manual (diagram of the engine, etc.) or if anyone has any idea what could be wrong with it, please let me know. THANKS!!!!!

I found a shorted wire going to the coil, under the flywheel. taped it and solved the sputtering problem.

Unfortunatly, you probably have the coil under flywheel bad, these are no longer availabel from Tecumseh. This is a very common problem on that engine, spark comes and goes.

One engine used on that tractor was tecumseh if you have Kohler it is a replacement.

That engine would be a Tecumseh model HH100-115016A not a kohler.

Your Sears "should" have a Tecumseh engine - not Kohler. Better verify that before buying parts.

Thanks for the responses and the education. After looking at the Kohler replacements parts I see that this engine is a Tecumseh and not a Kohler. Just wishful thinking I guess. I opened it up and gave it a good cleaning and was unable to get a spark. I replaced the cover, tried again and I had a spark. Tried again 5 minutes later and it was gone again.

Check the ground wire coming from module it may be shorting out and killing spark. Could also be bad ignition switch or any other short in wiring. Another possibility is the 2 prongs that stick out on flywheel aren't set properly. I'd recommend getting a repair manual and doing some troubleshooting before buying a bunch of new parts. The module if you need one is available from any Tecumseh dealer - I think about $145.00 . I've got used ones here if interested also.

I removed the cover from the engine again, recleaned everything, reassembled, and it fired right up. Hurried up and took it back to the owner. Thanks for all the good advice.

We once put "antisieze" on the flywheel taper, had the same result, cleaned it off and had spark all the time. Seems the antisieze insulated the flywheel ground part time??
