The electric clutch on my John Deere LX 172 does not engage. It is not stuck. Wires seem good. Where can I find a used one at a reasonable price? Any other ideas?

Did you actually test for 12V at the clutch? Yes, they do good bad but bad wiring/switches are more likely.

Thanks Ron. There is 12v at the clutch plug-in. Next step is to remove the clutch. Anything to watch for? I've never taken one off before. John

No, it's a piece of cake. But shop around for that clutch... JD is very pricey.

The clutch should come off in one peice. One bolt through the middle. One thing to check, though, some clutches are adjustable. But is it is not, take off the clutch, put 12 volts with a chrger to the plug and see if the clutch engages, we have found them to just have a improper ground causing it not to work. good luck

Thanks for all the help. I removed the electeric clutch on my JD LX-172. Put a 12v charger directly to the clutch. Nothing. Does anyone have a used clutch? Is there any place to get one at a reasonable price?
