I am rebuilding the transmission on a JD LX-172 riding mower (tooth on the ring gear broke), and I was wondering what type of grease to put back in it. Will regular lithium grease work or should I look for something else? Any other things I should look for/know about before I put it back together?

Thanks in advance

you need to use a good high temp wheel bearing grease as thease rearends do not have good seals

What was in it? Was ir grease or gearoil? I would guess that it had 85-145 gear oil in it but you should contact your local Deer dealer, he should know. Be sure to get every thing lubed before you put it back together to prevent damage on start up.
