An excellent tractor by far the best diesel
garden tractor that JD built. I would not be affraid to pay up to 5 k for one.
I am a JD dealer Mechanic and the only problems
I have seen is that they will break axles if
you abuse them and they have a tendency to pull
the frame appart where the axle bolts up to it.
That should give you a hint about thier power.
We keep one around the shop to pull our larger
broken farm tractors into the shop. Its a Horse !!

The JD 430 was an excellent lawn tractor , I had two JD 332 diesels and my neighbor had a 430, it was twice the tractor mine were. I always wanted one of those. He abused it all the time and it kept on going with no problems. This sounds like a good deal , you would not be dissapointed.

I would estimate the value to be in the 4500 to 3800 range. You will not be dissapointed with the tractor, by most accounts it's the best lawn and garden tractor john deere ever made. I have a 1984 model with 1500 hours on it and shows no signs of slowing down; it's built like a tank. Grab it while you have the opportunity!

Its worth all of $5000.00. I have a 1991 and it is an incredible tractor with more power than you will ever use. It burns less than half the fuel my old 16hp gas did. I have the collection system and a 42 inch blade and that little tractor impresses me every time I use it. We do not have the new diesel but have had a 455 diesel. The 430 would out pull out mow and out work the 455 any day. Its in a class by itself. Buy it you will not be disappointed.

John,
I bought a 1986 430 with 500 hours on it 6 years ago for $5000. I am in Central Indiana.

Good tractor. Takes a lickin and keeps on tickin.

John - You might want to get several opinions and take an average. The 430 is an extremely well-built machine. The Yanmar diesel is virtually bullet-proof. If the unit is clean and in very good shape, I'd be willing to go up to $4500 (if I was in the market). But that would be the top. Somewhere between $3700 and $4200 would be more inline for an average unit. However, with only 900 hours, the Yanmar engine still has many, many hours left in it. Hope this helps. - Dave

Just taking a educated guess. If it is a 1.5 LITER engine then I would guess $5,000 or so. A brand new JD 4300 with 2WD 1.5liter engine with gear trans goes for $13K new.

Kurt - Are you talking "garden tractors" or "compact tractors"? The JD430 3-cylinder Yanmar is a garden tractor. - Dave
