18HP Briggs Twin Carb Question

I'm rebuilding the carb on an 18HP Briggs Twin engine (L series). Of course, I don't have the repair/rebuild manual (I'll wait until it's completely dead for that!) and there are two things that I have questions about:

1) Looking at the carb from the front, directly under the fuel pump is a small disc that looks like it just gets pressed in. I have a similar disc in my rebuild kit but I'm not sure if it really needs to be replaced, and if it does, how do I get the old one out and the new one in?

2) Looking at the carb from the front, on the bottom right is a large bolt head. It doesn't look like it has a gasket and I don't have anything in my kit that looks like it would work with it. Behind the bolt head is a brass-looking piece that I can’t see very well (it’s at the bottom of the bowl). Do I really need to remove it? And if so, is there a gasket or do I just make sure it's just real good and tight?

I’m rebuilding the carb because I have to engage the choke somewhat to keep the thing from dying when a load is applied. I have installed new plugs, air filter, oil, fuel filter (plus I drained the old gas and put in fresh gas) to no avail. After talking to the local repair shop, they said it sounded like one of the carb journals was partially blocked.

Thanks!

After removing the bolt and the jet that is hidden behind it, and then soaking the carb overnight in Chem-Dip, it's now working like a champ! Thanks for the info!

Now, if I could only find a lawn tractor with shocks/struts for my extremely bumpy 2 1/2 acres, I'd really be set! :-)

Take off the bolt head and inside is a jet that is
removed with an allen head wrench. Remove the jet and clean it and reinstall and that will probably make it run much better. Fish
