My grandpa has a 17.5hp enduro briggs on his murray mower. The mower doesn't run smoothly while idling or w/o the blade engaged. While he is cutting grass it runs very well. How do you solve this problem or do you just let it go?

THE PROBLEM YOU HAVE IS IN THE FUEL SYSTEM THE CARB PROBABLY NEEDS TO BE PULLED DOWN AND CLEANED MORE THAN LIKELY DIRT IN THE TRANSITION AND IDLE PASSAGES OF THE CARB, ALSO IF YOU HAVE BEEN USING GAS WITH METHANOL IN IT THE POSIBILITY THAT THE PROTECTIVE SEAL COATING HAS BEEN EATEN AWAY AND THE CARB WILL JUST HAVE TO BE REPLACED, IF YOU PULL THE BOWL OFF AND LOOK AT THE CARB BODY AND IT HAS A WHITE CRUSTY OR POWDERY LOOK THE CARB IS SHOT !!!!

Thanks for the post. The mower was bought last year from Wally-World (Wal-Mart). They said turn the srew on the carb. It didn't help. They couldn't even sell him the right manuel for it. We don't want to take to the shop b/c then we'll have the big bill to pay. Thanks again for the info.
