Cub Cadet super garden tractors vs John Deere equivalents, how did they compare back in the day right up through the Cub Cadet cyclops super
garden tractors? Both gas and diesel.

Anyone own and have run both? What models and how did they compare?

Just curious.

Thanks!

(quoted from post at 22:39:45 12/21/23) Which has the best drive train for garden tractor Tractor pulling.
The vast majority of garden tractor pullers use a stick shift CC of IH vintage.
Some have tried to run the hydrostatic CC's but not as competative.
So much so that many events now have separate classes for stick shift and hydros.

The ones I can compare because I have owned both at the same time is a Cub Cadet 982 and a John Deere 400. Both very similar is size, horsepower and hydrostatic drive. Both were good machines, but in my opinion the John Deere was by far superior to the Cub Cadet for durability

What makes/models are you guys considering as ''super garden tractors'' besides the CC ''982'' and the DEERE ''400''?

I have a ''400'' and it HAS been a SUPER garden tractor.

My experience is with a 316 Deere and 1650 Cub Cadet. Both had the same engine. Mowing was a toss up, I think both had 48 or 46" decks. Same with the snowblower. The Cub Cadet had a far better rototiller. The one thing I liked about the Cub Cadet was it slows down and then will stop when you push the brake down.
I had an issue with my 316 hydro shaft, it went bad and needed to rebuild it.
It was pretty much a toss-up

Good old color wars

Is JD better or International Harvester?

Both manufactures purchased the components that made the tractors.

Sundstrand hydro units were common to both.

For diesel engines JD went with Yanmar and CC went with Kubota - Both excellent engines

For gas Onan and Kohler were quite common although JD did start using Kawasaki motors. All good brands

So overall have they have to be close on durability.

For gear drive no comparison it’s CC and to back me up have to note that the pullers use you CC drive train. It’s also common to find JD pullers with a CC trans installed .

It’s very sad that CC is no longer makes the high quality garden tractors from long ago.

I’m partial to the CC as I grew up on them any have to note how sad it is that CC no longer makes high quality garden tractors.
