Bolens 1658 H16XL Drive Shaft

I have a 1979 model 1658 H16XL on which, the drive shaft broke in half. My original drive shaft measures approximately 21 1/8 long using two coupling discs on each end. The parts manual calls for part number 173-4142. I have been unable to find a direct replacement but was able to find one on eBay that measures 21 15/16. This requires using only one coupling disc on each end. I have the option of returning the shaft but would like to know if using it would have detrimental effect on the drive train. Also. Does anyone know the part number for this shaft?

I also need to know where I can get a replacement input shaft (splined or keyed) to the Eaton 1100 hydrostatic transmission
.

You are absolutely correct. I retired as engineer but prior to that I was a tool and die maker. I have access to a machine shop so there is no excuse other than, I don't want to
be bothered running a lathe and welding.
 
I have no idea why this vendor did not show up in my searches. This time around I entered only the part number and he showed up. I purchased it for $19.99 and FedEx shipping of
$19.51 plus Ohio tax of $2.67 for a total of $42.17.

Thank you for steering me in the right direction.

Now I only need the input shaft to the Hydro/

GOSH, you opted out of a chance to use TOOLS, WTH??? LOL!
 
Dave Kay, Thank you. Ask a question with pertinent information and finding good results is easier.
Removing the dash was the key as I remember. Using several different search engine can help also.
