case 220 not charging

case 220 not charging. has stator charging system.

Checked stator leads to ground, no continuity.

Checked stator leads to each other. yes continuity.

Checked voltage between leads while running. Had zero, but was fooling around looking for something out of place and temporarily had about 30 volts ac from the stator, before I could plug it into the rectifier, voltage went back to zero.

Bad stator ? loose/bad connection at the stator ? Or ?

Have you removed the flywheel to inspect? I've had the magnets under the flywheel come loose and out of position.

Check for bad connections and bad grounds. I have seen both give problems before.

oK took flywheel off.. stator and magnets covered in 40 yrs of dirt. cleaned all by light brushing. Could this cause it not to generate ?? All looks good. Have continuity through stator and its not grounded out.

?? Thanks for any ideas.

Ignition switch has acted erratic at times.
Could this do it ? Im ordering a new switch anyway.
