Hey fellas-the drive belt broke. I went to local toro dealer, didn t have the OEM belt but sold me a Gates Hi-Power ll B79 21/32"x82" belt. I wrestled it on, but it seems too tight. The motor starts slower than normal, and the pulley on the motor is turning the belt when starting. I mowed a little but when I tried to shift it wouldn t, and I could smell the belt burning. Seems like the clutch pulley is not disengaging. Is the belt too short?
There is a thing above the engine drive pulley that appears to keep the mower blade drive belt down in the slot, but it also appears to touch the motor drive pulley. Did l over tighten this, allowing it to push against the drive pulley?

Looks like a belt guide rubbing the side of the belt, from what little shows in that picture.
Be very sure the belt is routed correctly before changing anything else.

If you want to determine what length belt it takes, go to Partstree and look up your mower model number. Then find the belt on the
drawings.
(hint: #1) On some of the older Toro drawings, the belt is only partially shown.
(hint: #2) Some Wheel Horse parts books combine gear drive and hydro drive so be sure you are looking at the correct belt for your
transmission.
Then google that part number. There is a good chance that someone selling a 'will fit' belt will state the dimensions of the belt they say
it takes and you can compare your dimensions with theirs.

The other issue is why did the old belt break? Although a belt on a 20 year old mower can die of 'old age' a failure is more likely due to
a bad bearing in the idler pulley. If the idler is locked up or the bearing is dry it will destroy any new belt put on it.

Some other issues on a Wheel Horse: Does the belt go properly past the right hand foot pad and shields? Some have a 'shelf' that the belt
rests on when you apply the clutch. Dpes it also go correctly past all the belt guides on the engine pulley. I am thinking there is one at
top and also on the bottom.

Another note: the pto brake pad is supposed to be set up about .011 away from the face of the pulley. You have to take it off in order to
get the drive belt on the engine pulley.

(quoted from post at 10:22:31 08/26/23) That part almost looks like a brake arm/pad. What is the model number of the mower?

The model number is 73320. Unfortunately the thing is 60
Miles away I looked at it today and the belt is rubbing against the part that keeps it from popping off the idler pulley when the clutch is depressed. It seems like the belt is too thick. I ll try what was suggested above.

Hey circus, the guys who know about this know what this picture is. If you can t help find something else to do.

There is probably an upper and lower guide for the drive belt

there is nothing to hold the power take off belt down in the groove. The little brake pad is to stop the pto.
my two pictures are with Onan engines, wheel Horses haven't changed much.
