General Appliance riding mower

I just picked up a 5 horsepower General Appliance riding mower. Deck is missing, but it was probably a 25 swath.

Anyone have manuals or any literature?

Thanks, Jay

Here's a pic...bought it yesterday at an auction.

I've seen this rider at Tractor shows for about 10-years.
I always thought it was a Huffy.
Now that I look at the detains, it's definitely not a Huffman product.
But I did find out it was made by General Appliance.
And just remembered that I think the original name on the rider was Grass Hound.

A-C made a "Grasshound".

There was also a 'Mustang' mower that was very similar to that. I'm pretty sure Huffman made mowers labeled for Grants and some other Box stores and probably the others that made similar mowers did that too.

I am thinking the biggest difference is the Huffy used a Tecumseh/Peerless forward/reverse gear box and the Mustang gearbox looks rather different although it looks like it does the same thing. When I put Daddy's Huffy back together, I purchased a larger Huffy parts mower that had the bolt pattern for a Peerless 3 speed transmission on the frame.

Hey, my uncle had a Mustang riding mower back in the late 60s. It was Guldens mustard yellow, had a 5 horse Briggs with the peerless trans. Fiberglass hood. Puny little wheels.Id have rather used a push mower than ride around with that hot engine between my legs. I could never find a picture of one.

The GA logo looked very similar to the AC (Allis-Chalmers) logo, and many thought the two companies were related.

I've heard that Artic Cat purchased or merged with General Appliance. Not sure if or when that occurred.

I own a Mustang, but mine was made by Mowett.
But there was another little rider called Mustang that was made by someone else. I've never seen one up close to figure out who made it.
