Best Tractor For Plowing And Working Ground

I have been tossing around the idea of getting a set of Brinley implements for my 2 acre patch.I think it might be more fun to grow something than to mow it and I want something small enough that it will take a while. I believe that tractor seat time is good for the soul. Does anyone have a reccomendation for a power unit for this.I am leaning toward an early Cub Cadet gear drive or maybe an old wheel Horse.

For planting corn/string beans and some cultivating I use a cub cadet 122 with a cultivator and corn planter. - have a plow and disc harrow but dont use them much.

I added hydraulic lift and remotes with a GM power steering pump

For cultivating row crops (corn beans) and laying black plastic - I use a economy power king 14-22 with a belly cultivator. - have a plow and disc but dont use them much. Also have a home made plastic mulch layer and wheel extensions to give it a 60 on center spacing

For tilling - I use a Kubota BX2200 with a rototiller and subsoiler. The BX has all the creature com and much more enjoyable to use.

Ive carefully matched / customized each of the 3 tractors and implements to the task based on the specific tractors strengths and capabilities. Its fun to use all the tractors

Good luck have fun

If you really want to do two acres, I would vote for something larger, like a Farmall Cub. Or a Kubota or something with a tiller. That 'taking a while' will one day be for the birds and you will really want to get on with the job.

Whats yer soil like? A garden tractor is limited in dense or rocky soil. For 2 acres Id be looking for a Farmall Cub or similar size machine.

An Allis B with mounted implements would be a nice choice. Much better ride. Pretty good on gas.

My vote would be a pre-1981 (IH made) Cub Cadet. From 7HP to 20HP, Hydro and Gear Drives.

I know this will get some disagreement, but I'd vote for a Case 4xx. But, only if it is equipped with the rear hydraulics, (or sleeve hitch)and tiller. Big tires, good traction and ride. Hydraulic tiller can be run forward or reverse to really grind up the seedbed. Drag harrow and plows can be used too of course.

Second choice would be an IH-built Cub Cadet, preferably a wide frame model. But, belt driven tillers have be a problem for me. Hard to install/remove compared to the hydraulic versions and hard on belts.

Maybe plowing with a garden tractor isn't the best idea. Just finished watching a couple garden tractor plowing day videos. There were many models, all cutting 1.5 to 2 inches deep. Is that deep enough?

I've been to a DOZEN CUB CADET PLOW DAYS mostly with my #72 gear drive with a 10 hp Kohler. It now has a Killer Kohler version 14 hp Kohler, NO problem plowing at all now. The fast 2nd gear in the 72 is a great plowing gear. On a typical CC Plow Day we plow about 40 acres, and nobody works hard. Plowing 2 acres would leave you wishing for more ground. The rear tires make a big difference, ALL my tractors will soon have FIRESTONE 23 DEGREE tires, the 23-8.50x12 on the 72, 26-12.00x12 on the 982, and the #70 Dad bought in 1965 will soon have 6-12 Firestones, I just have to mount them.
There was a Brinley plow & disk advertised for sale on IH Cub Cadet dot Com a month ago, check Weekend Freedom Machines too,
