Hi,

I have a Sears GTV 16 Varidrive and I am looking for belts for the tractor and mower deck.

The garden tractor is model # 917257091.

I think the belts for the mower are?

177J and 178J ???

I can't find the number on the mower deck. Where is the plate located? Is it under the cover for the blade belt? I think it MIGHT be a model # 917.253570 or model # 917.253572 ???

I can't find an manual for the tractor or mower deck online anywhere. I found the belt numbers for the garden tractor on searspartsdirect.com but the deck numbers don't show up.

Any help would be greatly appreciate!

Also, I seem to remember there being a chart somewhere on a Suburban forum where there used to be a chart that showed what accessories went with each garden tractor. Again, Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Dan

Tractor belts 177J translates to 5/8 x 43 or B40. 178J translates to 5/8 x 53 or B50. Be careful when buying B section belts as belts made by Gates are 21/32 wide and ride higher in the pulleys causing them to fit shorter.

The numbers you list for a mower deck actually are for snow throwers. Clean the plate really good and try to find different numbers.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I ran into the same thing when I tried to look up the deck numbers but I know they exist because the manuals can be bought on ebay for around $50.00 a piece. I will try to post the covers of the manuals. Mine looks like the 917.253570 picture except my tractor is a 16 horse instead of a 14 hp version. I lost my manuals or I could just cross reference the numbers that were in there. Thanks!

BE careful buying generic belts. If that Varidrive
system has two belts - one from the engine to the varidrive unit
and a second from the varidrive unit to the transaxle it may require
a wrapped belt to work properly. A belt that has bare rubber on the sides
will not let the varidrive work properly.

I found a web page that has pretty much every belt Sears ever used, I think. You just need to look up your model number. It includes tractors, mower decks, roto spaders, snow blowers, etc.

It even has a search feature for you model number in the lower right hand corner.

I hope it is okay to post it here.
