working on it

Still getting pieces and parts gather up . Man what a fight . Carb mounting gskt's . I thought i had the correct harness connector for the key switch but someplace i must have used it else where . The key switch and wire ends are the problem of why it does not run . Now in the morning i will run up to and out of the way lawn mower shop that says he has the cab gskt's . and see . The local old I H dealer thought he had them but a bin check said NO . Maybe by this weekend , Fingers crossed it will be running and snow blade on . Then it will NOT SNOW for sure the rest of this year . Then it is onto the deck and fix the rust thru's and center spindle and two new belts. Then i can be like the one neighbor with the postage stamp yard that with a push mower ya could do in 20 min. he takes and hour and a half to mow with a 48 inch rider that sound like a old FOX chopper doing corn . Yea i am thinking dual exhausts with straight pipes. And OH just and FIY the key switch from the I H dealer was a LOT LESS then the internet ones , So more barley pop money can go into the repairs on the cubby.

Has your Cubbie have the key recessed back in a small steel bowl shaped thing about the size of a cap on a spray can of paint? One of my Cubbies had that, think it was the 129, kept your knee from hitting the key and breaking it. Might be my #72. I drilled a hole on the top of the instrument panel to mount the switch out of the way on the 70.
Isn't it crazy what parts some dealers run out of? I bet IF I could get back into the lawn mower corner of the shop I could find 4-5 carb gaskets, I don't have anything with a 7 or 8 hp engine anymore, only 10 & 14 plus the 20 hp Onan, but I have gaskets for the Onan.
When I refurbished the #70 and rebuilt & installed the 10 hp engine everything in the carb was new & clean. SON bought gas from the filthiest gas station in Davenport, Iowa. I get a phone call, That DANGED tractor died, you GOTTA get down here and fix it! Soon! The elbow that feeds gas into the carb makes a sharp 90 degree turn, and it was plugged solid with sand. Kohler sells a complete carb kit, the gaskets you need, float bowl seal, main fuel needle & seat, I checked Cub Cadet Specialties, they're out of them.

You got any chrome planned for that??? Good for a couple more horses.

Well we always said if it don't run then Chrome it . That is one thing i never did on any of my engine builds . You opened the hood on my 1961 Ford Sunliner and ya saw a factory brushed aluim. oval air cleaner covering up three Holley Two BBl carb , and under that was all Ford Blue and Gold . Lot of guys back then also thought i needed Chrome valve covers . The factory Gold valve covers were just fine . My money was inside .

Ah yea , Kholer has stopped making them . along with a bunch of pieces and parts , so now ya got to go scrounge where every ya can find them. Today i ran out to a little back woods law mower shop and he dug around and found two Gskt's and said i need to order in some more and let me do it before i forget if your not in a Hurry . Told him ya go for it . Well Guess what he also found out they are NOW N/A . Now as to key switch no it does no set in the CUP . It sets out a bit . Once i got down to my buddy's place we got to work on it , we replaced the wire ends with new i have the Delco 56ends on hand at all times with me. I did a little cleaning on it , put the fuel tank back in readjusted the points , hooked the battery up turned on the gas pulled the choke and turned the key and she fired off and runs great , even charges . BUT i need to do some work on the direction control as it wants to creep backwards while in the neutral gate. Adjusted the brake and it now stops. . No smoke on start up and no tel tail blue smoke while running . All that is left is drop the mule drive out and stuff the blade on get a new seat and put the tire chains on and haul it up to the house . Oh yea change the Hydro stat oil and filter and fill the tank.

Well that is what i CLAIMED , BUT she was a WEEEEE bit more . The cam was a Crowler full roller , the heads were 427 med risers , the crank was out of a HD 391 truck engine , the pistons were Jan's , the rods were GT 40' double shot peened magnifluxed and x rayed deburred and polished and balanced . every piece of that 390 came across the part counter , new block heads rods crank oil pan valve covers Flywheel was made from 4340 . Intake was edelbrock Carbs were Holleys , dist was holly valves were Wolfverien The Stuff that was for the cam came from Crowler roller rockers and shafts along with push rods and roller lifeters double valve springs and dampers . Exhaust went thru a custom set of jardean headers to fit the way the frame was on the rag top then run back thru 2 1/2 inch pipes to vary quiet MUFFLERS . Can't tell ya how many ponys she made weren't no dynos anywhere close to ever run it on . But she made enough to knock the socks off a friends 1963 Ford gal. 500 with a 427 dual quad heads up even run at the local strip Got him thru the lights with a 12.04 and 117.43 and had three car lengths on him thru the lights and we were just starting to learn how to tune it . With the help of my one third cousin he helped me really dial it in with jetting and power vale according to temp. Humidity and alt. and pressure I would rejet and change power valves accordingly also used staggered jetting . The best she ever ran was a 11.56 at a 118.23 And back the that was FLYEN as double A fuel dragsters were still crawling down the track in the 8 second area.and we thought that was fast. My cousins home made vet running A mod sports was running in the low 10's . Now you may think i am pulling your leg here BUT for you guys that love the Stingrays can thank him for them as Fisher body used his design on them . They came down to my Aunt kates here in this town and there were like fifty people from G M and Fisher body looking at his creation that he hand built in a one and ahalf car garage out back of the house here on South East Bvld. It looked like a 62 Vet in the ft. but the rear was that of the Sting Ray but with out the reap around rear windows just a small rectangle window . every inch of that car was hand built and under the hood he told eveyone that it was a 409 when in fact it was a Z11 . He had a 57 Vet that he drove . The local drag strip was built by a friend of m y mother and my cousin , my uncle built the timing tower on top of the old silo. I even had a small hand in it running the Galion 8 ton roller over the black top Many found monomers at Quaker City Drag strip . I was really getting into it when i got drafted. Then my car sat up on jack stands for 6 months before i got a leave to come home for Christmas and only had 9 days home and had to get back on base . I had more training to go thru .

Mine was Midnight met. Blue with white top and powder blue inside When i found it it was a 223 6 CYLINDER three on the tree , then a 62 352 dual quad out of a Streetborro police car was dropped in , it burnt more oil then gas, then i BOUGHT a 390 tri power off and engine builder and to this day on the east side lane out at Quaker City about half way down the track if yopu walked with a metal detector you more then likely find picees and part fro when it came unglued at around 7 grand . I saved the motor mounts nothing else She came apart like a bomb went off inside . A new hood was require . that is when i became and engine builder . Mine stayed together and would turn a weee bit more then just 7 grand.

When I mowed with my 129 and 982 any time I stopped the tractor and got off, to pick up a tree limb, move something out of the way, I'd creep the front tire into something solid like a tree, building foundation, larger farm tractor. Gear drives won't run away on you unless they roll down a hill. The Hydros are nice with the seamless forward & reverse and ability to slow to a creep in tall grass/weeds.
