Yesterday the devil got to me and forced me to buy a rare bird . I picked up a 1250 Cud cadet that has hyd lift , head lights and hour meter . Now i personally have never seen a 1250 with these on them I was wondering if anyone else has one or has seen one equipped in this fashion? sure no expert on little tractors and this one will need a little time on my knees begin it to come back to life . I really bought it for snow plowing since we have been having more heavy wet snow and the snow blower does not like heavy wet snow , i don't like any snow myself . BUT now i just can't go shoveling anymore . What i have found sofar that is needed is the battery is Junk it does not run No spark and no brakes. Now question here i have a 1250 parts tractor i robbed some parts off of to make a 1450 whole for and old friend out in Mo. about 13-14 years back when she was down and out and needed something to mow her yard with . Well she passed away a couple years later . Now that 1250 Parts tractor has Disc brakes , this one i see NOTHING just looking i saw no signs on this one qwhere there was ever a brake system mounted to the axle housing . Now i did not get down on my hands and knees to see it it had internal brakes or not . it was pretty nasty out when we went to load it and just got it on the trailer and tied down and the vary sloppy drive back and it got shoved off the trailer into my buddy shop and left ti drip dry for a day or show . while i scrounge for pieces and parts and go fetch a new battery . I have no books on toy tractors
.

mine does not have the double valve , i was looking at a 1450 for sale fifty sixty miles from me that had the double BUT it was alot more money and gee it ran , now what fun was that to get something that would run . Gee's , Now we have something to work on and see just how many flat rate beer hours we get in on this project. My one good friend that we have been friends now going on over fifty years his wife who i had been friends with since 69 . The loss has now just started to come crashing down on him so this project will help him not feel forgotten and help keep him busy .He helped me on the 1450 project . . Today is scouting day and price shopping .

OH REALLY wow , so i guess i had best look deeper before i start robben pieces and part off the other 1250 , What i was going to do is pull the steering box off of it and do a rebuild and take the slop out like i did on the 1450 and Just and FYI go to Mother Deere for the bearings and such a lot less green stamps need . I did not take the time to run up to the bearing stores when i did it But learned that the Stuff i needed for the Ariens snow blower , dealer wanted over 38 bucks for the one bushing , bearing house wanted 3.50 i just had to clip off part of the shoulder . I do thank you for the info . I have not even looked at or for the S/N on this tractor yet just checking on prices and what i can and can not get.

There is a website with name farmallcub in the address.
They have a library you can download manuals from. It only has operators manual that I found, it covers a bunch of models
starting with maybe 800 and up.
The service manual is GSS-1464 and I did not see that.
We bit tricky navigating to the manuals and you do have to sign up.

Duner Wi:

There is a dedicate Cub Cadet site called: [b:760ebd5db5]www.onlycubcadets.net [/b:760ebd5db5]that has a ton of information.

Thanks guys i may know ever inch of the big tractors up to the 88 series but dumber then a box of rocks on the toy tractors . Now that i bought it the way the weather is shaping up might be like the snow blower i went all thru this past fall instead if fighting it to get it to run when it is snowen and blowen and i am freezing fingers off tryen to make it run. I put there days in it and sofar i have never needed it . sofar the worst it has been was right before Christmas with temps below 0 and a dusting to a couple inches of the white stuff . Vary unusual for here . I am sure glad i am out of the commercial snow removal this year as i would have lost my donkey .

Brakes are not really that important on a hydrostatic tractor. I had a 129 CUB Cadet for 15 years, it's the next older model than your 1250. I have a 982 now with dual hydraulics and hydrostatic trans. Unfortunately the 982 was the ONLY Cub Cadet with an Onan engine, a 20 hp B48G, I think a bunch of 3 year Olds designed that engine.
The Cub Cadets are one tough little tractor. A 12 hp Hydro like a 1250 is a great workhorse. You'll need chains for the rear tires, and weights. The 26# IH weights are crazy expensive, about $2-$3/ pound, hang a couple IH suitcase weights on the rearend.

Ah No brakes might be OK in Flat non HILL country but for a flat spot here ya have to DIY it and when the engine is OFF she rolls like a baby buggy . SOOOOOOOO she needs Brakes And i have Chains , now as to weights WELL 26 #each and at the outrageous prices i think i will see if i can find some scrap burn outs in like 6-10 plate OR a 10-12 inch section of Conductor pipe and make them out of CONCRETE as i may be all I H i am also CHEAP . I'll let the GOT TO HAVES throw there money away . If i can find burn outs they will be scrap price and weigh more . I can drill the holes for the mounting bolts . I also just might put tube in the tires and fill them also , one can never have enough weight . This coming from someone that use to pull a Farmall 450 D in the 10500 class , i would have went to the 12500 class if i had the extra weight back in the day.

My repair manual has the 1250 grouped together with several other models, some had internal brakes and some external.....

I dove into it to day a little . BUT i did not get down on the floor to look at the brake issue . I was more into why it was not running . So my buddy had put a battery charger on it Friday evening and let it slow cook , Today i tested the battery and Thumbs up he is good to go under load test . Got the Hyd control to move with the help of some Zep and now moves like it should , Checked the points and that all loos good other then someone did not replace the bottom screw in the points cover. I can Fix that . Got the brake lock lever to move with some extrem force and once again with the help of Zep , this stuff is even good on toast. , next up on to see what works was the head lights , yup both ft. lights work and one back one the other tail light is broken . I found the reason for it not running . It's the Key switch and wire terminals , the key switch is toast then plug in is toast along with two female packard delco 56 wire ends , i have them in stock and i have the five plug deal also in stock , for then i need to walk out to the truck and open the door and get my box of wiring stuff out . NOW to source a key switch from some place not tryen to rip you off . Looked a little when i came home and for a Cub Cadet they the sellers think they are GOLD . NOW IF ya own a John Deere they are 2/3rd the price . Now is there a difference , Don't know , BUT Deere switches have the same terminal pattern of five terminals or is it four , it's late and we are having my night time sleepy med's maybe it is four and uses the five terminal plug Yea that is it . I try and scrounge all my plugs out of junk I H and White freightliner semi trucks in junk yards from back in the day . Ya want the black ones not the clear ones as once the sun hits the clear one they disintegrate almost over night . For new ones i relie on TERMINAL SUPPLY for all my wiring needs .
