Woreout ,

After looking at some of the online diaghrams that I found as well as as some from the links that was posted originally from what i can tell the original key switch was a three position switch with five pins on back to plug into harness . The original part number for the switch was AM32318 which superceded to AM103286. The pin letters are A R I B S . Am I correct ? What does the letters stand for ? I'm guessing -

A = Ampmeter or alternator ?
R = ?
I = Ignition ?
B = Battery ?
S = Start ?

Am I correct ? What is the R pin for ?

Thank you for any and all help !

If he bought a good used wiring harness it might even come with the
correct plug to attach to the back of the switch.

(quoted from post at 13:00:28 11/05/22) If he bought a good used wiring harness it might even come with the
correct plug to attach to the back of the switch.

It would be a GREAT stretch of luck to find a used harness with a connector and terminals in GREAT shape.

DEERE sells the connector and individual terminals, there are some ebay sellers with the body and pigtails to splice unto the existing harness.

From that wiring diagram that Steve in MO sent you, A is Accessory and the lights connect to it. (but any accessory could connect there, like for instance, a cigarette lighter.) And 'R' goes to the voltage regulator. You figured out the rest.

If you need the plastic separator or the terminal ends to repair the plug on your existing wiring harness, Call some small engine shops in your area. They are available from Rotary, Oregon and Stens.

One other thing: All 5 pin ignition switches are NOT the same. Be sure the pins you need are the 'correct' labeled pins, in the same locations on the back of the switch. (They sometimes are mixed up, just so an OEM has a unique switch to sell as a part unique to their machine.)

And also, from the wiring diagram, it looks like your engine is battery ignition. There are also a 5 pin switches that are only for magneto ignition.
