18HP Briggs Vanguard fuel issue

Engine runs when a trickle of fuel is poured into the carb. My first thought was fuel pump not pulling fuel. I unhooked fuel line from pump and tried to put fuel into carb with tubing and a funnel---no go. While cranking the engine the fuel pump was functioning.

So it appears there's an electric solenoid on the carb. How do I go about checking it? The carb looks to be a bit of a pain to work on.

I believe there may be an electric solenoid in the carburetor that shuts off to prevent dieseling, check to make sure it's getting power. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in here. We have a Briggs on a JD Z-turn that been flawless for 6 years, so far.

As Russ posted check that there is 12 V to fuel shut off solenoid and yes they are a pain to work on to get the carb off you have to remove the intake manifold

. Managed to disconnect solenoid from carb, cut the working end off the plunger and reinstalled. Good to go. This would not be a "friendly" engine to work on. Guess I m an old K-series Kohler guy.

The way the carb is mounted and where its mount not real easy to do mine has not in 6+ years
