Kohler Command ignition

Got a Kohler twin 25hp cv725s. No spark in one cylinder.

Has the original ASAM (analog spark advance module). Which have been failure prone apparently.

Unhooked all leads from the coils and rang them out. Both coils, resistance measures the same between wires (including plug wires), and wires to ground on both coils.

Checked the wires leading back to the ASAM, resistance measures the same both sides.

I know Kohler had problems with that ASAM module, and sells a kit to change it. But before I spend $165 to convert it, was hoping someone had a way to test the unit to verify it is bad, or if I need to keep digging.

Link is to the conversion kit.

Thanks

That seems like a reasonable price for all that's included, plus it's supposed to be a more reliable system and you know it will work/solve the problem.

How much can you muck around for $165.00?

We had one of those Kohlers in the shop a couple years ago running on 1 cyl. We put the kit on and I saved the 'good' coil. I let my cousin have it and he said it ran about 3 hours and it also quit.

Save yourself some grief and buy the kit. If it is available, that is. Last year the lead time on those kits was like 3 months or more. The Kohler rep. did advise we replace the only the old coil in that situation. And it hasn't come back yet. But if it does, and we can get the kit, the customer will get the kit this time.

Oh, I don't know, retired in April so I have a bit more time than I used to. :)

Agreed it's not a bad price for what you get.

Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something stupid (small engines are not something I work on a lot) before I ordered parts.

Thanks
