Husqvarna transmission issues

Helped a friend this afternoon who has a Husqvarna YTH24V48LS hydro static drive mower. This sealed unit leaks and he has had it apart before; opening it up and adding fluid-which can't be done without a lot of work. He was told by dealer the unit can't be repaired. Anyone familiar with this issue; the round fill cap can't be accessed without removal and problem reoccurs. I would like to help my computer-challenged friend. Is the six year old mower worth fixing? He is about ready to junk it. Thanks in advance.

(quoted from post at 16:13:32 06/03/18) He was told by dealer the unit can't be repaired.

Man made it. Man can work man can fins a way to repair it.. It should have a Tuff Torq K46 BT transaxle..

Sorry for the large pic...

Look for a plug on top of the transaxle.. That plug can be removed to drain the oil, add oil and bleed the air from a K46.. Some have a rubber breather tube attached to the same fill hole..

He has the same diagram but has no breather tube. As stated, he has removed unit, added oil and re-assembled many times. On the front side of the diagrammed part, he drilled all the way through the upper portion, put bolts with rubber washers on as original design has stub bolts facing upwards only - hope this makes sense. He also placed over sized washers on bolts that are near the axles in hopes of a better seal = more torque. I only saw the unit this p.m. so my description probably lacks clarity. Thanks for your effort.

If its leaking at one of the axles you may be able to replace the seal and get by. Tuff Torq has their own website and it looks like you can
order parts right off the website.

Tuff Torque deals with the consumer; did for me on a JD L110 46". Very very nice folks. Give them a call or www. Got my parts that I tore up (my fault) and a free gimmie cap. One thing that changed in the process. Rather than the 10W-30 originally spec'd for that mower they upped the viscosity to 10W-40 in a note with the parts. I noticed on hydros in general the thicker oil seems to be the preferred lube.....my Ferris IZ700Z 61 uses 20W-50.

YouTube videos are available on overhauling these transaxles.
Leaks are probably covered in those videos as well.
