Update- Kohler Command Pro Head Gasket

Just wanted to give an update and ask another question. Pulled the #1 head on Monday and found that the head gasket had blown in two locations. Cleaned up the head and found the intake valve seal to be ok. I'm thinking the piece of rubber I found inside the valve cover was from a grommet to the breather replaced a few years ago. Since I had a new one I replaced it. The valves and guide appeared to be ok. There was considerable carbon built up on the top of the piston and exhaust valve. All the oil leakage appeared to be coming from the head gasket. Put it all back together and it runs good with no problems... I think. It seems that full throttle, or high idle does not seem as high as it was. Checked the cables and linkage and everything looks normal. I put a tach on and it read 3150 rpm at high idle. Here's the question, does anyone know what high idle should be?

Thanks to those who responded previously and hope someone has the answer to the rpm question.

Hi Mule;

Thanks for the info. I need to confirm the rpm's with another tach as I'm beginning to doubt its accuracy. I can think of nothing I did that would lower the rpm's as I only moved the manifold and carb out of the way. New O-rings on the intake manifold and the carb was not disconnected. Checked out cables and throttle mechanism and all seem ok.

Regarding your specs, are they standard for every application or specifically for a lawn tractor?
Thank you for your help.

The specs came from an Owners Manual I have for one of the pieces of equiptment with a Kohler CV675 engine. The manual cover the CV17 - CV26, CV675-740 engines.

Ok great, thank you. Going to see if I can get a better tach to confirm rpms and will go from there.
