Hi, I had a problem with the tractor creeping forward in neutral. I adjusted it and works good now. But when I shift to reverse too fast or if it is uphill to back up, the hydrostatic drive makes a loud chattery scream. Not so bad if on level ground or if you go into reverse slowly. What's going on? Ed Will Oliver BC

Found that on a Cub Cadet. Take the brake apart and clean everything. Couple of drops of oil on the linkage. The brake would lock in reverse. Sounds just like your description.

Jeffcat,
The linkage is works fine while moving from either forward or reverse. But I just had a notion! There is a
rod that sticks out the back above the hitch point.
When pulled out it allows you to push the tractor. My old craftsman had about a 1/4" rod but this poulan has more like a stiff wire with no lock to slip in groove. Do you think that wire may be in between positions? Thanks.

Not sure. One of the little release valves could hang up. Couple of drops of oil in the top of them where they come out ? Never had one hang. My Cub Cadet LTX 1045 is the one that had the brake hang. It is a Mtd unit.
