I have a John Deere GT 275 that is not charging the battery light stays on and only battery voltage when running. It worked last fall but not now. Any ideas of what to look for? Could be a mouse chewed the wires.

Was in my friends repair shop just two days ago. JD sitting there nice and clean. Just as you describe. Check the wires going into your regulator. The two outer wires should read around 26-28 volts AC at about a good medium speed on throttle. Center terminal should read 14.2 volts DC with the other meter terminal going to ground. Measure at this point and then get back to us

Wanted to leave this separate. Regulator could be bad or you popped the fuse. Do the tests first. Usually a yellow fuse.

I have a JD 275 new in 1998, today it did exactly what yours does, the light came on, not charging, first problem I've had. Glad to see this topic brought up.

I used the 275 today. I'd charged the battery, today when I started it the alternator light came on, then I revved the engine almost full throttle, never usually run near that fast. The light went off at high rev's, when I slowed it back down the light stayed off and stayed off the entire time I mowed, YIPPEE!

You should always run a hydro tractor at full throttle, keeps that fan going at max speed to cool the transmission and you have max power when you hit the high grass.
