How do you test a Briggs/David Bradley coil?

I think the coil on my David?s Bradley with Briggs N series
engine is causing lack of spark. New points and condenser
that are set by the book. Is there a way to test the coil for
spark?

Testing coil on a B & S engine: with an ohm meter, measure from the wire that connects to the points, to the wire with the ring terminal that grounds under the coil mounting screws. You should read o OHMS. Then measure the plug wire to the same ring wire and you should read 4 to 8 ohms. If both readings are good, the coil is good. If you read infinity in either place the coil is bad. Hope this helps.

You can buy any number of coil spark testers that work fine from auto parts stores, Amazon, or even Walmart for under $10.

The coil testing procedure that I put down in my reply earlier can be done either on the vehicle or off and on the bench. It works either way.
