adjust reverse on hydrostatic mower

I have a Craftsman "pro series" mower made by Huskavarna. It has 2 pedals on the right side floorboard, the foreward speed pedal and a reverse pedal. It goes foreward fine with plenty of speed, but hard to push the reverse pedal down far enough to get it to go backwards with any power. I can pull back on the "forewrd" pedal and it goes in reverse fine, it just acts like the reverse pedal needs to ba taller. anyone run into this and have a solution?

I blew some durt and grass out of the back area where the hydrostat resides. couldn't reall see in there but linkage seems to be working a little better now. It is a little hard to get to but I have an air nossel with an extension on it and seemed to help. Perhaps will help someone else with this problem

Yes, dust/chaff/thatch/whatever can pile up and bind the linkage in reverse. Also, about 10 years ago, we had a problem with the dimension between the holes in the link from the pedals back to the transaxle being a little too long. I remember we had to change the angle of the bend in the link, but can't remember whether it had to end up with a shorter or longer dimension between the holes at each end. I would have to look at one to be sure. The idea was to make the reverse pedal stand higher from the platform when in the neutral position.

The mower does lose some forward speed when you do this, so we only did it if the customer complained about low speed backing up.

Not on that machine but I have tried on a few mowers to increase the speed in R and the way they design the linkage it's next to impossible to do it.....Tough Torque gearboxes.

See if this might help. Have a cub cadet 1030 that I use for a little towing tractor. When I got it the adjustments were all out of wack. Someone had been messing with tools big time. The whole cause was a broken mount on the front of the hydrostatic unit to the frame. Had to remove the seat and fender assembly. Remove the bracket and had it welded. After I put it together everything needed to be put back into adjustment. Five years latter she still works fine. If you can get a copy of the adjustment procedure from a dealer or off the net it will help you a lot more than guessing.

Go to Youtube.

Search for "Taryl Fixes All".

He had a video showing what needs to be done to increase the reverse speed on a Craftsman/Husqvarna lawn tractor.

Taryl is comical and a little off in the head. But you can learn a lot from him wben it comes to equipment.

Hi I have the same set up on one of my mowers.
The reverse was getting hard to work but if if you lifted the forward pedal it would work. My grandson got under it and adjusted it. It works now. I don't know what he did but it only took him 15 minutes. He said he did one before so it must be a common problem. Ed Will Oliver BC
