need advise on Case Garden tractor

I think there is a Case garden tractor on a sale near me. Not sure of the model, but the picture shows it with the tiller that is run by hydraulics. Don't know much about these except for their stellar reputation. My question is, if this thing has an Onan engine and the engine is shot, does that tractor have a common bolt pattern for repowering with something current?

You have several options. The first thing to do would be to discover what is wrong with the engine. Is it just low compression or is it a broken rod? You need that information FIRST so you can decide the best course of action. Maybe, that engine is easily rebuildable. Maybe, you could source a good, used engine (Onan) to install. While it is possible to re-power the tractor with a foreign engine, doing so requires a lot of work. Case chose Onan engines because they were the BEST twin cylinder units available.

Go find out the PIN of the tractor and the model number. Is it a 446 or a 448? Is it painted Case Orangey Red or is it beige and red? What is the asking price? Does it start and run? Can you drive it? The more we know about it, the better we can advise you. MOVE QUICKLY because these tractors rarely hang around for long if they are a good deal.

It is the two tone paint. It is on a sale bill pictured but not listed. There are other items listed but not pictured. Won't know till I get there. The info on the repower helps a lot. I see tractors listed with 16 horse briggs or Kohler listed on craigs list so that is why I asked. I will find out tomorrow what it is for sure.

To my knowledge there is nothing that just drops in to replace an Onan. All types of engines have been fitted by enterprising individuals with fabricating skills and a lathe and a mill. Plus there are kits sold to replace it with a B&S twin but you wont like the price. As Tom said determining the best course of action depends on what is wrong with the engine, and just as important the condition of the rest of the tractor. When one considers what they sell for around here, both hulks and nice tractors the best choice is to buy one that is in good shape rather than a fixer upper.

Found out the machine will not be on the auction. Thanks for the info though. It may come in handy in the future.
