Cub Cadet 123 Questions

Bought a Cub Cadet 123 Hydro at an auction today for $325, not sure if I spent to much or not but it was the cheapest mower sold today. It’s got a deck and what appears to be all the parts on it, new decals, and a blue ribbon service manual. The PTO linkage is unscrewed right behind the starter generator, I think this should be a quick fix is there a certain amount of free I should adjust it for? Also the hydro seems to freewheel down hill a lot. Without a way to slow it down without stopping, is this normal? I need to get new belts for the whole machine does anyone have suggestions on where to get these or pet numbers? Thanks in advance for any help.

Look at the front end of the engine, right in front of the large starter pulley the belt from the starter
turns. The cast iron pulley is the pto pulley & clutch. There should be a lever that pivots back & forth
that pushes a carbon disk on the lever into the smooth domed shaft in the middle of the pto clutch.
Tighten the turnbuckle until a matchbook cover slides between the carbon disk and the smooth doomed
shaft. If the clutch drags, doesn't shut off tighten turnbuckle a bit more till the pto pulkey stops
when you pull the lever back. You might have to pull the lever WAY back and then let it forward to the
catch that holds it disengaged.

The fact the adjustment rod was disconnected makes me think the pto clutch is screwed up. Not going to
get into that!

Check out IH.CUBCADET.COM for all your parts and information about that #123. Factory parts manuals,
service manuals, and operators manuals are availble there on line.

Your hydro creep going downhill is probably excessive wear in your hydro speed control trunnion. You need
two cheap springs, two cheap special end caps and a fairly cheap rectangular steel piece with a
rectangular hole in it that welds to your speed control lever on your hydro pump/motor Under the
tractor's frame. On a #123 rearend removal is required to fix that problem. Not hard to remove whole
rearend, only six 3/8" capscrews hold the rearend in place, plus the speed control rod and driveshaft.
