I have a craftsman riding mower with 26hp b/s engine 6yr old. I was told possible bent push rod or valves need adjustment. Ive done that. Now I'm led to believe it may need carb rebuild. Some say buy a new carb on Ebay. Problem: there are so many I don't know which one. I don't want t go to the trouble of exchanging. Anyone know for sure which one? I would order from US and have it delivered to Oroville Wa. Ed Will Oliver bc

Go down to Kohler and Briggs listing a few down where you asked this question. I tell you how to test your engine running on one cylinder. What happens in these carbs if you take the bottom off you will see under that plate a black rectangular paper gasket with four little holes. One of the bottom holes swells shut and then the carb is thrown out of ballance. What is actually going on with your engine is one cylinder is getting only 1 / 2 the amount of fuel it needs as where the other cylinder is getting 1 1/2 the amount it needs. Pull both sparkplugs out. I'll bet one is normal grey and the other is black as coal. Now go out and do these tests and then get back to us.

Jeffcat thanks for the help. I have a few days before I can get to it but I'll sure do what you say. Ed Will Oliver BC

Good going. It is a really dumb test till you try it. All of a sudden the engine straightens out for about 3/4 of a second. Easy as pie. Those revision 3 carbs work like magic. Beautiful throttle response and super smooth low idle too. By the way...if you do get a new carb you will find an air fuel mixer plate that stirs the air flow into the engine. One of the fixes to the engine carb problems. Follow the picture on the instructions CAREFULLY. That plate must be installed correctly. Have fun.

Tractorguy, a new carb is pretty pricey, so on Ebay they're $50. Hardly worth rebuilding. Ed Will Oliver BC

Pay attention to what he says. He helped on a 22 V twin carb-intake manifold problem and talked me into upgrading to premium fuel and NGK plugs. Great help.
