My travel control lever has a lot of free play and it must be eased slowly into forward travel position as it is very grabby, kind of like an old manual clutch.Must I replace or repair the hyd control valve? Any advice welcome.

More likely than not........your control valve is just fine. The problem is most likely with the various pieces of hardware between your hand and the control valve. Small amounts of wear and tear create free play that YOU do not notice but your control valve does. The worst culprit is the ball and socket link that is the last item leading to the actual control valve. Also look for play in all the other items, including the plastic bushing in the dash, the bushing at the bottom of the control lever and the hole in the metal plate at the bottom of the control lever that accepts the round rod link leading to the ball and socket. Even that rod can have wear in it. The more wear and tear you eliminate, the better your control of travel will be.. New parts can be had at the link below. l They accept credit cards and ship by mail....anywhere.

Thanks Tom, I never thought of that. As soon as it is safe to remove my snow blower I'll get under there and check for wear.
