Kubota start

G1800 3 cyl diesel runs perfect. Starts good. But have to start at high throttle then can immediately idle down. If I try to start at a lower idle it will fire and shut off. I just don't like starting at high throttle but otherwise runs like top. Is this fuel problem or just how they have to be started.

I don't know that much about your tractor. From my experience that is not right with diesel engines they should start with very little throttle many newer ones start from idle.

I don't know about you particular model Kubota engine. But I do know that the smaller 1200s and 950s (or is it 930) they use in Grasshopper mowers want to be at least 1/2 throttle, especially when its cold, but are a bit more forgiving of a low throttle position when the weather is warm.

Be sure to use you pre-heat before you crank it.

It's starts immediately above half throttle. But won't start at all when set to less. I'd say it's about 2000 rpm when it starts.

What does it say in the owners manual?? I had a Simplicity with a Lambordina diesel and it had to be started at full throttle (like you I found this hard to do at first) but that was the only way it would start and run as some as it was running good I'd pull the throttle lever back and it was good to go.

Under the inj. pump, inside the engine, there is a "start spring" connected to the main control rack & the inj. pump.
THAT may be broken, not allowing the pump control rack to go to the starting position..??
Its a "hair wound spring" very light & not uncommon to breakage..
OR your pump is alittle sticky & the extra "bump" of the throttle is all it needs to get to the starting position.?
Another thing is the shut-off solenoid.. it fills w/ oil behind the plunger & wont allow the control rack to open fully.. VERY possible.. & easy to check..
Just remove it & work the plunger.. if it squirts oil out atcha.. just keep workin it until it stops squirting & reinstall.
All the Kubotas I've worked on have a side plate that contains the throttle mechanisms.. 4 bots & your in..
You can check the "stickiness" of the pump rack & see if the little start spring is intact..
Good luck.. TPG
