What other decks will fit a Cub Cadet i1042?

This isn't my main mower, but it has a TIMED deck. If you don't have a perfect yard it WILL go out of time easily.

It only has 216.7 hours on it. I can't mow the 3 acre yard even once without it going out of time. I've had it with the timed decks.

Any ideas what other deck, not timed, will fit it without redoing all the hangers, etc?

I hate to sell it to anyone because it keeps going out of time so easily. The Diesel mower has got well over 2500 hours on it and is still doing fine except for the deck. It's rusting away, but can be welded. DOUG

So why does it go "out of time"??

Because a blade hits a root or stick, rock, etc.?

Not knowing how they put tension on the belt, can you try a heavier spring, etc. to put more tension on the belt?

Something like that might help prevent belt slip and thus an "out of time" condition.

I don't understand that either, would think it would take a cogged belt like a car timing belt or gear boxes to maintain any kind of timing.

Not if the deck has blades that will hit each other when rotating unless they are "timed" so that the tips are not crossing the same spot at the same time.

Know a guy that bought an i1042 around 2009. He bragged about it all Summer. The next year it got parked next to his garage due to never ending deck problems and is still sitting there.

Have not tried or saw any information on it.. Just wondering if the timed pulleys could be replaced with V-Pulleys and blades made for a regular 42" deck?

That is what I was wondering myself. I don't care what brand deck I put on it. I realize the drive pulley on the deck will need to be replaced so I can switch decks.

I have tried to trade it in for ANYTHING else. Everyone is scared to trade for it. The timed decks have a TERRIBLE reputation.

I think it might be time to start a Class Action lawsuit against Cub Cadet. All I want is a mower that the blades won't crash together all the time. I don't have the money to file a Class Action. DOUG

Why don't you replace the deck on the diesel mower with a new one? Assuming it's a cub cadet mower and, if that's the case, deck replacement should be a part of scheduled maintenance.

The diesel mower is a Cushman. Basically NO PARTS available for it. That is why the deck needs welded instead of replaced.

doug in missouri:

According to the Cub Cadet site, this tractor came with one and only one mower deck, with no other options available.
