electrical question

being that my GTs all have charging systems rated in amps, I have some 12V 100 W headlite bulbs I'd like to use, mostly because I have them.... a standard 4411 bulb is 35w. how many more AMPS will a 100W bulb use vs a 35 watt bulb?

The 100 watt bulb will draw 8.33333333 amps. 100 divided by 12. The 35 watt bulb will draw 2.9166666 amps. 35 divided by 12. In other words, the 100 watt lamp will draw three times the current (amps) as the 35 watt lamp will Most GT electrical systems do not put out more than 15 amps at full throttle. A pair of 100 watt headlamps will draw 16.6666 amps, thus leaving nothing to run the coil. The trend today is to switch over to LED lamps which give a whiter light, brighter light,, more lumens and draw only a fraction of what the incandescent lamps draw. Sorry but those 100 watt headlamps are now obsolete.

On a 12 volt system.

35 Watt bulbs will draw approx 3 amps each (2.91 actually).

100 Watt bulbs will draw approx 8 amps each (8.33 actually).

Using two 100 watt head lights that will be pulling nearly 17 amps would not be a good idea on a GT. I would go with LED's on my 27hp Kohler powered GT's before I put something on them that will draw nearly half of the Amps that the alternator is capable of producing.

ok, thanks... yeah I know, with the LED's that are out a lot of things are obsolete. that don't mean to throw away good functional machines or parts.... most of the machines that draw us here are technically obsolete too right? Right now I have 1 of those 100 watt bulbs in there and 1 original 35. my other 35 died and I found something to fit the hole.... 1, 100W would probably be plenty, actually. and yeah I have been looking into LED's, ya know, 1 thing at a t1me ha ha.... I have 4 GTs, and I robbed them all to get the 1 good 35watt bulb, they all had 1 that the terminal busted out of the bulb when I went to disconnect them..... and the other one just plain didn't work no more..... getting ready for snow that I hope stays away.

Considering what you can buy complete LED driving/fog lights for on Ebay, there's no reason to risk damage to the charging system by using lights that max the system out. Besides, when tractor is at less than full throttle, the battery is looseing charge and lights dim.

Had looked at eBay and wasn't finding anything reasonable and they all seemed to be pool lights or can lights or landscape lighting, nothing about being for off road or tractors
I found some from another site and ordered some...
