Is this model actually a 'john deere' or is it made for JD, by some other company.
Is the Briggs twin (18hp) a solid runner ??
Thanks.

my dad had one for a few years not used hard but put 2 transmission pulleys on it would chew the center spline out of the pulley not a bad tractor though but he likes his new simplicity better

I have a 01 model. Model 54 deck, gator blades, Briggs vtwin. Deck brgs are greasable, I like that. New seat and hood damage is normal to see on list of fix it on em.

I have had a jd. Gt235 since 2004. Good tractor. No major problems at all, Just belts, spindle bearing , and a little broken spring on the deck heights adjustment knob. Runs smooth. Yes it is a jd product. Even it's battery lasted 7 years!
No ptoclutch problems. Heavy built...it is a lawn tractor, not just a lawn mower.. there IS a difference.

Oh, yes..the top part of the hood cracked. Local implement dealer said they had seen several come in with cracked hoods. Just quality of plastic at that time. Don't open hood by grabbing at top center...grab in vents on each side to prevent stressing the plastic. It might not have been UV tolerant as much as they might have thought. I ordered a new top part from amazon!

I also have one and with the same problems....especially the broken spring.
My battery lasted 7 years too.
Good tractor. Smooth runner.
It runs poorly if the air filter element gets dirty....I found out.
Does you batter light flicker?
Dealer said they have see several like that. On some off some.
Said to ignore it. Too expensive to trouble shoot....always starts and no dead batteries
My hood got brittle and cracked. Ordered new one on amazon...just the top part.
