JD 318 hydrostatic trans stuck in gear

My 6 year old grandson was playing on my 318 turning the steering wheel and moving the "gearshift" back and forth between forward and reverse. The tractor was not running at the time. A few days later I tried to start the tractor to use it. When I tried to start it the tractor would try to move forward. It does this no matter where the gearshift is positioned. The gearshift linkage looks fine and feels normal. I do have a JD service manual but I would like to hear from the "been there, fixed that" folks before I tear it apart. Are parts still available for these and what other garden tractors would have the same transmission?
Thanks,
Arvin

There are no gears to "stick".Better look at the linkage again. Have to depress the neutral switch to start. Switch may be in the notch for neutral.

It is possible he sheared a rollpin in the hydro speed and direction control linkage.

Just for giggles, try depressing the brakes HARD, as there's a linkage between the brakes and the hydro that shoves the hydro linkage in neutral when the brakes are depressed.

Here's a link to the tech manual at the WFM site.

The hydro linkage is covered in Section 50.
