Replacing lawn tracor

My forty year old 16 hp, hydrostatic drive, Simplicity lawn tractor is giving up the ghost. It had a floating 48 inch mower deck, and I ran a snow blower off the tractor in the winter. I am looking to replace this with another durable tractor. My half acre yard has a slope in the front so good traction is important. My concern is that "they don't make em like they used to" I would like to attatch a catcher in the Fall to pick up leaves also. What is built to last now a days? Suggestions?

I'll say this on the matter... When our 2014 Husqvarna 2248 needs a transaxle I will be going back to something a bit more older and robust such as a case 446 or something such as yours.. The wife averages about 60hrs a year using it for mowing and towing a garden cart for her tools etc.. No ground engaging or anything ... Hardest pulls are when the lawn sweep is plum full.

It has served us well for what she does but to be honest I wouldn't spend a penny over 3000 bucks for another one again..

If I had to do it again and wanted a tough garden tractor that would last it'd be a Kubota and I would probably have to shell out about 8 or 9000 bucks.. sad isn't it.

"What is built to last nowadays"? Tough question because I won't buy a new garden tractor...i have 5 Gravelys, ranging from 37 to 49 years old....they were made to last and made to be repaired.

Have 3 Kubota garden tractors all made 1978-1980. No major problems. 1 is 12 horse other 2 are 14 horse. 12 horse is a 2 cylinder and little short on power for 40" deck. 14s have 48" decks and very ample power. Purchased 1 14 horse new and picked up others used. Just can't wear them out. like most garden tractors if you don't take care of decks they'll rust out. 1600 - 2600 hrs. Have blade for the 14 horse. Haven't used in several years. Even with chains if front end is down hill you may be stuck trying to move snow.
