JD Motor Question

Will a motor off a John Deere LX277 work on a JD GT275? Both are 17 hp Kawasaki motors. The engine on the 275 is about wore out and I can get one off the LX277, don't want to find out after I buy it that it won't work ;o)

Easy way - check the engine model number and spec number. If they are the same, you can use it.
Hard way - if you don't mind drilling some holes in your frame and maybe doing some rewiring, just check the crankshaft diameter and length. As before, if they are the same go for it.

I installed a new engines in a L 110 JD 42" rider with a 17.5 single and a Husqvarna 46" 20 hp single, rider. The engines coming out were Kohler singles. The frame on both machines had dual bolt patterns on a 10" diameter circle which matched both the single and the BS V twin 18 and 20 hp mounting patterns. Additionally, the electrical connections, battery charger and starter power were in the same place with the same connector types and pinout positions on both engines so that married right up........believe it or not, sometimes industry standardizes things "for the common good"!

Then only thing I had to change was the throttle and choke cables and go from a single input muffler to a dual. ebay and Raintree came to the rescue with the necessary parts. The singles had the T&C connections on the left side of the engine whereas the V twins had the connections in the front center. No biggie as ebay came to the rescue again with a variety of nice cable assys at the right price, fast shipping which were from a different model JD but were much better controls than my OEM and no problem mounting in a different area since they were of a different type than the single OEM lever controls.

The L110 comes with the single cylinder engine but the L120 is almost identical with a V twin. I could have used OEM cable assys for that and found one for a V Husq. but chose the route I took which has worked out great.

I take it the model and spec numbers are on the sticker that is on the side of the motor? I saw the build date and other numbers but wasn't sure what they all meant.
