Cub Cadet C-160G Dead key/no start

it's an older machine maybe early 2000's (I bought it at a yardsale like 3 years ago) and always ran good until this year. The mower wouldnt start after i cut my dads lawn a while back, same thing, dead key/no start (turn the key and nothing at all happens) so he took it to a mechanic who said he bypassed all the safety switches to get it running again. It worked and we brought it home and cut the grass a few times. Now go to use it again and turn the key and nothing. Fully charged battery, just nothing at all happens when the key is turned. I jumped the solenoid terminals under the seat and she fired right up so I thought i had a bad solenoid, replaced with a new one and still nothing, just the dead key.

Any ideas on what i can do or where to look?

Ain't much of a mechanic if he had to bypass all of the safety switches to get it running. Hope you don't have youngsters running this thing.

He bypassed all the safeties at my request. Can you help or you just stopping by for a safety inspection?

That's what's parked in my garage.
Sometimes canadian models are tagged
different than the American ones? Not too
sure why it says it doesn't exist. I'll
look around the machine for more
identifying numbers and post

Start looking for bad grounds, broken/corroded wires, corrosion on the switch spades. Likely something simple. Could also be something the mechanic "fixed" when he bypassed stuff has become "un-fixed", ie- broken jumper or wire.

Its a MTD with that old style variable speed drive that just happens to say Cub Cadet on the side. There was a picture of one on the IH Cub Cadet website several years ago. Probably from the '90s.

That said, the best advice has already been given: since you say a new solenoid didn't fix it, your problem is probably in some of the 'bypasses' or in the ignition switch, or a broken or bad connection somewhere between the ignition switch and the solenoid. It may in fact be whatever stopped it from running the last time before all those switches were bypassed.

You did check the fuse, didn't you?

Case450:

Sorry, didn't know you are Canadian and that the Tractor is a Canadian Model. I did find some limited information on the C-160G but not enough to answer your question(s).

We bought one real cheap a few years ago that was dead, pushed it on the trailer. When we got home I jumped the solenoid and unloaded it, (I didn't want to try that in front of the seller) Wife got on the internet and in 5 minutes she said if the wires to the headlights are broken it's probably a burnt fuse. I taped up the wires and changed the fuse and all was well.

Hi CASE450, I am trying to contact you direct.

You posted in the past about a Liebherr 932 Pilot controls issue.
I have the same model machine and the same problem. Did you ever find out what was causing your pilot controls to quit working?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Never got it figured out. My mechanic who
knew the liebherrs died and everyone on
here told me to call a mobile liebher
technician but at 250 per hour mechanic
would cost more than the excavator
