So I tried disconnecting the mag shut down wire and the thing would not spin over at all. Messed with ti and tried to figure out how the heck it is wired up and nothing I tried has worked. Now if will not even start so thinking some how I have burned out the mags. This thing is nightmare when it comes to the way it is wired up and all the safety stuff.
Seat safety does not work right and if your sitting on the seat it will not spin over.
Brake safety does not work and if your pushing don on the pedal it will not spin over.
If you do get it started if you try to turn on the PTO the engine dies.
If your on the seat and you try to turn on the PTO it does nothing at all as in keeps running but the PTO does not engage.

Well I have tried to register with them but so far after 20 minutes I have not been able to down load all the info needed to do so. Being on dial up causes a lot of problem with many sites due to not being dial up friendly

I feel your pain,I remember dial up,the phone company is putting in fiber here right now.(how much extra is that going to be?) If you can get on they are a good bunch of guys for anything L&G green.

Rich, I know you are being frugal and trying to help a lady out, but what's your time worth? You can buy the genuine DEERE service manual, TM103419, in CD form, for $40 and up on the 'net. Heck, DEERE will even sell it to you for $40, by calling
1-800-522-7448.

DEERE manuals are second to none with detailed troubleshooting trees, etc.. Once you have the service info at hand, it probably won't take much time or $ to repair it correctly.

I know you said the owner can operate it with safety functions disabled, but what about someone else, especially a kid, that comes upon it and messes with it and gets hurt. You always have to consider that possibility!

I do now have a wiring diagram for it but the way it is wired looks like if so much as one switch has something even a little wrong on it the whole system will do odd things. Shoot the first time I looked at it I could start it up but had to jump the solenoid to do so. Of course that would not work for this woman. But what seems odd is the more I look at it the worse it gets so there has to be something with the wiring that is really bad since it seems if I move the wiring around to look for problem the problems seem to also move. Plus this woman does not have much $$ to spend on it either

Well I did finally get registered but have not gone past that as of yet. I know if I owned this lawn mower I would take all the old wiring off and make my own wiring for it but that also might be hard since the PTO clutch is a 3 wire set up which makes no sense.

Old, I know from reading the posts that you want to find some quick way to get this mower running well enough to work even if its not electrically correct.

In the past, I have had to take the wiring diagram and trace almost every single wire until I found the problem. I think you may be better off in the long run to use your wiring diagram and put everything back just like it was. When you get to each switch, check them with an ohm meter. I it has relays, you can test them too, but you have to use jumpers to power the coil inside and an ohm meter to check whether it actually does switch the current.

Also, if it has the 4 prong seat switch, there is a shorting clip in the plug.
That shorting clip has been known to miss the tab on the switch that is supposed to open the circuit and stay grounded and they do funny things when that clip is grounded to the other tabs in the plug. I have never found any way to get those to work except make all the switches in the safety circuit work, including the seat switch, sans grounding clip, of course.

Well, you got the wiring diagram, now you only need a few more pages of the TM with the troubleshooting "tree" to quickly narrow down the problem!
