tuff torque trans

Have a troybilt super bronco with the tuff torque 46c transaxle. It is 2 yrs old with only 90 hours. Problem is, when cold, the trans is really jerky and won't hardly move. Once warmed up, it does fine. Have che ked belt, and it looks fine, no signs of wear or fraying. I thought if bad trans, it would be the opposite. Move when cold, quit pulling when hot. I understand from others that this one can be removed, drained, and refilled. Could it possibly be just low on oil?

From what you describe, it sounds like the oil is a bit too thick when cold. You might need to disassemble and clean the whole thing out, replace the filter, and reassemble with whatever fresh oil is recommended.

I have a JD L110 I bought from a BB store many many years ago. I tore it up once (my fault) and went into it, found the bad parts, ordered them from TT and got very positive results from the whole transaction, including a gimmie cap with TT logo on it.

In the process I noticed that the trend is to go to heavier oils. Where they originally installed 10w-30 dino oil in my unit, they recommended 0W-40 full syn with the replacement parts. Case in point is my new Ferris ZT is spec'd for 20W50.

Inside the unit is a fine mesh screen that is used as the oil filter. Possibly it's full of debris......curious however as it would take a lot of debris to fill that filter as it's about an inch and a half in diameter and ?" tall, single mesh ,fine screen. You may have a worn piston(s) in your pump and it has to warm up for the piston to swell up and fit the cylinder better. A thicker oil would help to seal that off.

However, 90 hours??????? All bets are off. Why don't you contact them and ask for advice.

All is well! Tore into it, magnet was clean, filter was clean, inside still looked new as it should. Problem was, I didn't get half a quart of oil out of it. There was no signs of leakage on outside, so I am wondering if it was even filled from factory. Put two and almost half quarts synthetic in it after I put it together, started it up, and it moves great, forward and reverse with no noise at all! Lucked out on this one!

I had a 2009 Ram with just a few hundred miles on it, weather turned hot and AC wasn't cooling very well. Took it in and it seems the
factory guy that filled it didn't get it filled properly. All the local did was bring the freon up to specs and had no problems thereafter. I
guess it happens.
