Well Mr. Jeffcat SIR!!!!!! You are the man of the hour. As I said, I ordered the exact number you posted for $55 free shippping, arrival in 3 days, can't beat a deal like that.
Purrs like a kitten. Immediate starts with no choke after warm, doesn't die when 52" deck is engaged at idle, Smooth throttle advance, Meets the BS 1750 and 3600 rpm spec right out of the box. Got it in 3 days from the ebay guy that had 9 left....don't know how many now. Went through most everything as I posted. Checked valve lash both sides and was in spec, didn't need adjusting. Tell you what, V twins are really easy to work on as compared to flat heads.
Can't gripe about the DR and the 22 BS Extended service. Had it about 12 years as I recall, put about 500 hrs on it, changed the plugs once and put studded snow tires on the rear; oil and filter once a year...WM 10w-30 full syn., added some weight and added soft springs to the seat. Still has all the orig belts. Did wear the foam off the steering handles but no biggie, I use gloves. It has been going down hill for quite awhile. I did change the fuel and air filters for the first time and put new hose from the fuel filter out to the carb as I mentioned with the new carb and changed the oil and filter to get the SF crankcase charge out......oil was totally black only after about an hour's running after adding it.
Side note. I never put high test in a lawn mower but about a week ago I bought some to try in the small engines around the place, 2 and 4 strokers. It does do better, noticeably better. Easy starts is probably the most notable. Put some in this old girl too with my snake oil and the SF decarb I did before the new carb.
Did get my BS engine manual, 4th edition. Author says it's for the you and I type folks, not the service manual for mechanics so things are explained in common every day terms.
Oh, gotta add this to keep me humble......if you pull your carb off one of these BS engines and all that stuff, when you reinstall everything "don't forget to plug in the carburetor anti-overrun plug.....so you can get some gas into the carb bowl.......daaaaa!" Scared the begeebies out of me thinking I did something wrong or forgot something....well I did the latter. Plugged it in and she lit right off. Other than that a seamless replacement.
