Stil weed trimmer help needed !!!

I've been fiddling with a Stil weed trimmer for a while after it was given to me. Model FS 36 so one of the
small yard type ones. Finally got the ignition problem sorted out and fired it up this afternoon. Starts
and runs OK but after a minute or so of running, I have to pump the throttle trigger to keep it running. It
starts to die and when that happens I give it a few pulls on the trigger and away she goes again. Sound
pretty obvious that it is a carb or fuel problem, any suggestions as to where to start for a fix or
troubleshooting?

Is that one with the round knob on the back for a choke?
You could have a compression problem, but it sounds like you have a fuel delivery problem. You could try opening the idle mix screw 1/4 turn to 1/2 turn or so and see if it helps.

Its probably time for a kit in the carburetor and make sure all the jets are clean, especially the idle side.

I just went through 2 of my older weed trimmers. Both had ring problems. Previously I have had problems fuel deposits, with the Tygon? Chartreuse fuel line, the squirt bulb being cracked, and in searching for something else a partially clogged spark arrestor. I didn't think the rings could be bad but the smaller engine had 1 ring and the larger 2 as I found out later.

I had been running 50:1 premium Stihl oil and a ring problem just never came to mind. They both failed the compression test which was 90 psi per the book.....as I recall. Rings were readily available on ebay and elsewhere and I did the overhaul. Due to other problems with them like one was too short for me and the other too heavy and being old I just decided to get a new Stihl LS (I think) 50 easy start which has the extra length curved shaft. Even though Stihl recommends 50:1 and their oil is dispensed as such, I'm running 1.5x oil in this baby. Really like it and it has more power than I need; seldom go to full throttle. Nice and light and easy start.
