Small engines?

I wondering if some one knows for sure at what angle the smaller engines can operate? ex: if I were to ride a 16 to 20 HP mower down a hill or side ways on a hill. Can it operate at 45 degrees with out starving the engine of oil? First off I'm not going to be riding it. I want to know at what angle I can rotate a engine.

Too many factors to answer your question. Some engines, like the Kohler KT17 series 1 have ZERO tolerance for side hills. Other engines do better. You could always overfill the oil to help but the steeper the angle the more risk involved. Best of luck!

This reminds me of drag racers, like top fuel. How many "G's" do they pull going down the track? They must have an oil pick up at the back of the engine.

This is where the dry dump comes in.. a separate tank
containing the engines oil along with a belt driven external
pump. Also can be used where a conventional oil pan will not
work.

try it and find out, kinda like asking how long will engine run without oil, buddys did over 4hrs and
was still running when i left. use the dry sump style like already mentioned.

Thanks for the answers guys. I'm basically working on a poor mans pond bank mowing idea and really think 30 degrees will be about it but thought I'd ask.

Without looking it up, 30 degrees sticks in my head too.

I have seen some of the older Briggs push mower engines-3-1/2 hp.-run for quite some time at greater angles than that mowing a bank, however. (And live to do it again another day)

anyone remember the old Flymo mowers? I think they still sell them overseas (England maybe?) no wheels floats on teh vacuum that the spinning blade creates, used to sell them here with a 2 cycle Tecumseh w/a diaphragm carb. As I remember mowing hills is just what they were made for.

Yea I remember them they never did seem to sell around here, never tried one I wonder what kind of a job they did.
