I was given a 2155 cub cadet. I have never been around a cub newer than a 108. How are these? It seems like a contradiction in terms. It has a 10 HP horizontal shaft and says mtd on the side. I've always heard mtd means made to die and usally Id agree. A horizontal shaft means you have a garden tractor not a lawnmower. Can someone set the story straight?

The 2155 is not a bad machine. I like the way that the drive line is set up on them. Shaft from the engine straight to the trans-axle eliminates a lot of problems that belt drive system encounter.
Yes it was built by MTD.
A Vertical or Horizontal shaft engine does not dictate if you have a YT or GT..
Yard Tractors normally are built using cheaper grade components. Especially the trans axle. Wheel held on by a clip or a single bolt and washer in the center of the rim is 99% of the time a YT.
Garden Tractors (when mowers are concerned) are built of higher quality parts. Wheels on them use either 4 or 5 lug nuts or bolts to hold the rim to the drive hub.
