JD LT145 starting problems part 2

And more problems. So I got it to run yesterday and she had planed to mow with it. But this morning she calls and say it starts easy but she could not make it go forward or backwards and the mower deck would not engage. It has one of those hydrostat drives and the electric PTO. So do these bad safety switch have anything to do with the drive and the PTO. I could see how it might keep the PTO form working but the drive I cannot see

Did you leave the tractor locked in park? Both of my big ones the clutch pedal must come up. If a hydro is the diengage pulled.

Yes, those lawn tractor units have all electric controls.
The wiring harness has to be intact and all the switches have to be good.
There is a freewheel setting on the hydrostatic transaxle. Look on the back of the frame.

If I remember right when i left her place yesterday I had left it with the parking brake released so that should not be the problem. I also tried pulling the hydro release to see if i could roll it by hand and it did not seem to release like it should have so maybe the drive problem is in the hydro unit it self and maybe it has gone bad on her as well. I plan to find the 2 safety switches Monday and then install them and see what happens form there. I was at Wal-Mart today and I walked by a Murry riding lawn tractor and flip up the seat and found it has what appears to be the same safety switch as on this LT145 JD. Had the same 4 wires and the 2 jumper together just like on the JD but the wire colors where different

I know about the free wheel device and pulled it yesterday when I was messing with it to see if I could make it roll but when I did it did not release which I thought was odd but maybe a sign that it has a deeper problem

If you look on Ebay you will see many many machines listed and all of them are the same switch. Go take a look. Note the A&B sides. Just what we have been talking about. Many more of 5hem to look at.

Maybe. That's kind of a thick wire if I remember right.
The wire might be unhooked inside or the whole thing might be trashed.
You might get lucky and fond a good transaxle on a mower that the owner ran the engine low on oil.
I think the other guys have suggested checking on the key that locks the wheel onto the axle and the sheave on the input shaft - they shear the splines some times.

When i pull the drive release I can feel a pull to it so it feels like it should but does not release as it should. But I do not know the whole history of it so hard to say what has or has not been done and when

The switch you show is the one that might be correct for the brake but not even close for the seat. The seat switch has the terminals side by side 1,2,3,4 and the last 2 have a jumper wire that hooks 3 and 4 together. From the seat switch the wires then run to the brake pedal switch if the color code holds true

Went thru the exact same problem with my neighbors JD. Problem was in the solenoid that was burnes out.

I did in fact find a bad solenoid which I have replaced but one or both of the safety switches are also bad
