We have a Husqvarna 15-42 that we bought new, in 01, and just love it, but last year bought a new zero-turn for at home, so we took it to the cabin. Last fall the wife ran a stick into the deck belt system and it ruined the belt. Every thing looked OK when I put a new belt on it but the replacement failed yesterday. Previous to this the belts lasted for many years, (5-8). All of the bearings seem to be OK but I am wondering about the alignment of the idlers. Since there is significant offset between the clutch sheave and the deck I suspect the idlers have to be somewhat in between, right?

Not familiar with that old of Husqvarna, but on our newer model and on the older mowers we've had, the idler(s) were quite wide - I've assumed to allow for such transition heights. Do you buy replacement belts with Kevlar? If not, you won't get nearly the life or wear resistance.

Quick question - on our newer model, cannot lower the deck below the top 2 notches or it'll scalp into the dirt. Were the older ones that bad as well?

Had recently bought a new self-propelled mower that promised 4" max cutting height. They lied. At max, got about 2"; maybe a hair less.

your deck is not setup correct,it just needs to be adjusted. do
it all time in shop, just because it new does not mean it is
setup correct!!!!!!

check alignment, yes idler pulleys you want them more centered if at all possible. belts do vary also in quality but regardless you have another issue going on.

Definitely could have bent something. Are you sure all of the pulleys are free to turn? Is the belt routed correctly. I have seen where the pulleys have rusted and they must be shinny spotless clean. Will chew 5he @#$=^& out of a belt in short order. I have a 46 and a 54 Husqvarna and love them. Also see if a twig or stick is up in the path of the belt under the guard covers. Blow ALL of the crap out from the top of the deck. Bet you will find something stuck

I've had belt guards that got bent out of place and rubbed. ...Well, don't know if they're guards or keepers. They're normally near a pulley to prevent the belt from slipping off when deck is disengaged. Have also had debris get caught up in the belt system while mowing. But don't think what you're describing sounds like either of these.

just had the daughters 210 inhale somthing that snapped the deck belt and bent the the tension arm at the idler,, when i pulled the deck shield there was nothing inside that i could see,, let alone how it would of found its way in there..how it happened i will never know.quite a trick get in there ,do the damage and then exit stage left.

First thing to check is the correct belt routing.

Once the belt to routed around the two blade pulleys and brought back to be placed around the two idlers in the center of the deck. Make sure that the belt is on mistakenly placed on the outside of the belt guard/guide next to the pulleys.

With it being a 16 year old machine. Before you go twisting nuts and bolts on the deck. Check the air pressure in the tires. A few pounds difference in air pressure (say on the rear for example) can have huge effect on how the mower cuts. Obtaining a level cut should always start with the tires first..

Had a similar instance on a Husqy 2348. the belt broke on a Saturday so I got a non- Husqvarna belt at a fleet store and had a short life. That one broke on a weekend so I repeated the process and had the same result. I was finally able to get to a dealer during hours and he was out of that size, but because he's a swell guy he gave a used belt to get me by. a year later I'm still running it.
