Deere hoods

Have early 2000's GT235, always kept inside and over the last 10 yrs hood started to crack and come apart. I figure it is from engine heat since it does not sit outside.

I did a repair job on mine. It's one piece again.
Had to prep the edges like welding cast. Lol.
I be real careful opening/closing the hood now. 😃

I tried gorilla glue but no hold told wife its her mower that once it fell totally apart that she would then have a pullin mower look.

have a 20 some yr old 212,i hit a tree last fall dead center,,scuffed up the paint a little bent the hinge mounts,,bent grill,,but not a crack to the hood...i went from calling it barney to SIR barney !!!

The other mechanic that works with me says that the reason they have such flimsy hoods is so they get a lot of parts business. And it cost over $300 to replace some of those hoods too.

My hood, split down middle, busted up by hand grab.
I took a rough file, and veed the edges on bottom side of hood. I then used hot glue gun, basically laying a weld with the hot glue. On the top, I used in weld clear weld. Applies like fiberglass resin.
Sets in bout 6 mins, cure in 36 hours.
It looks fine 10 feet away. I could have did a lot better, but it held.

I grew up on a 112. Variable speed, elect raise deck, had a hitch too with like a mini v ripper. Blown that kohler twice. Lol

Boy I can remember many years ago with the little 110 mower my dad was all ticked off about the fiber glass hood. Cheap. Still there 60 + years latter. Then four years ago he sold the "^<5%:'#?_ hood to someone who needed one for probably 30 bucks. Don't get me started! Plastic is very cheap to make but can be brittle. Shame they are still not fiber glass.

I think my rear, still has the steel toe boot imprint from that day...
We had the ol 112 for 20 plus years, dad bought it new. US kids beat that mower a lot. In 99, we restored it, and sold it. I was delivering it to New owner, on an open trailer, got bout 2 miles down the road and seen the hood fly off n slam into pavement.
I replaced that hood for New owner. He still uses it today.
