Was the Massey 8 a decent lawn tractor? Not familiar with Masseys? In good shape and guy wants 200$ Is it even collectibile as I know somw Masseys are?

They made 2 different 8 hp models. The first and probably more collectible is the Executive, which is yellow and was made by the Dura Corporation in the early 60's. They had a 3 speed transmission and a Kohler engine. Later they made the traditional red Massey. I think they all had a Tecumseh in them, and were either a 3 speed transmission or a hydrostat. There seem to be lots more of those around. I have an Executive, and had a later model red one with a hydro transmission that I gave to my oldest grand daughter. The red one mowed well, turns short, and I think is a 34" deck.

I think these were back when the Tecumseh was a decent motor, maybe even cast iron. I have read on some of them that ignition parts are hard to get, but overall I don't think the engines from that era were bad? The one I had and gave to my grand daughter was a fun little mower, turned a dime, and did a good job mowing. It was old though, and I didn't use it to regularly mow my lawn. No idea how parts for the mower etc. would be. It did have small tires, was more of a mower than a lawn tractor. Here are a couple links to both of them.

I have a MF 7-the red tractor that looks like a miniature 135.

I am thinking it was basically the same chassis as the red MF 8. It was o.k. for mowing, not particularly comfortable to ride, but it had stirrups instead of platforms for your feet, which I think platforms were standard on the 8hp. It had a 32" deck, a bit fast for its size, It could cut about as fast as my 36" cut Murray.

I always felt I was on my own for parts. Ebay was helpful. I eventually painted it and its in storage now. I do know that piston rings are NLA for the HH70, at least through my sources. Although the engine was the same size block shared a lot of parts with the 5 hp., it had a larger bore. I don't know about 8 hp. parts availability.

It is also difficult to re-power with any other engine, the deck clutch bracketry under the frame limits where the engine can be mounted.
