1572 Cub Cadet

Going to look at a Cub Cadet 1572 diesel, did they have any problems to watch for? Did they have power steering? Thanks in advance..

Never owned a 1572 but would love to have one they are rare. Power steering, independent rear brakes, 15hp Kubota. I would prefer to see it start cold.

Son has one, they are pretty good tractors. If it has a 60" Haban deck it has had the snot run out of it because it takes all it has to run the deck. They run a 54" standard deck much easier. Most all Kubotas of that vintage will need the glow plugs to start even when it is warm out, it is the nature of them and not an indication of being worn out. Look at the exhaust manifold where it bolts to the engine as they are prone to cracking If you need one they are half the price at Kubota that they are through CC. A lot of them have been overheated due to owners not cleaning the screen in front of the radiator. Look at it, if totally plugged it has been run hot, that is a certainty. They suffer from the same hydro leaks as all other CC hydro tractors. If it leaks all the time until the fluid is a couple inches low then the cork gasket is bad between the hydro unit and rear end, an inexpensive but time consuming job. If it leaks only when operated it is likely the relief valves on top which are easy to get at but expensive repair. Once in a great while the steel pressure lines between pump and motor fail and there is an upgrade available through CC. My son's 1572 has both power steering and power lift, I cant say if it was standard or optional but look at Tractor Data dot com to see. They are very much sought after by the CC collector crowd. My son has had several unsolicited offers for his that are "up there"

One thing you may notice -- an issue common with any of these year Cub Cadets is the wear that occurs on the hydro linkage. That will be evident when the hydro lever is in neutral, with the engine running ... the tractor will 'drift' forward or reverse. The symptoms are also that the tractor will seem to 'jerk' when moving the lever forward or backward and not speed-up or slow-down smoothly as was when new. They all do it eventually and the problem is not hard to fix. There is a spring that controls the smooth action of the linkage and that spring wears against the 1/4" steel plate where it sits. A new spring and restoring the plate edges will fix it. So if you see that happening, it is not a big problem.
