70's JD 300?

Apparently I've bought a JD 300. Near as I can tell it's a mid to late 70's model, decent shape for what I paid ($100). Anyone own one or have any experience?

I've owned a couple, still own one. They are basically a restyled late 140, which included moving the gas tank to the rear, away from the hot engine, and increasing capacity, which is nice, the first of the "300" series.

Attachments for 120, 140, 300, 312, 314, early 316, and 317 all interchange.

Mid-mount mowers and front-mount snowblowers fit beyond that, even.

Good old tractor, tough as nails.

1975... 30,001 through 55,000.
1976... 55,001 through 70,000.
1977... 70,001 through 80,000.

Gee, thanks Bob! :D That's just the type of info I was looking for. This one looks in decent shape paint and metal-wise. Tires are low, maybe flat on one, seats worn, side panels off but with tractor. Buying it from the in law of a friend and with his rep it could just be parked because of stale fuel, bad battery or something equally minor. It's got the mower deck, I'd guess about 42", and wheel weights. Hoping it's repairable, but I could part it out if it's not.

Cleaned the points, cleaned the plug, cleaned the crap out of the carb, replaced a fuel hose and the battery, added gas. Runs like good! Hydraulics work fine. Wiring is all messed up though. Not bad for a C-note!
