Have a 525 with Kaw 17 motor. Works fine if it starts. Usually crank the guts out of it to start. Once running works fine. Little blue smoke when turning too sharp. Has always done that! Not alot of hours on it. It once in a while fouled up plug, just clean and good to go. Now has spark but poor and no start. Ignitor?

Sounds like a weak igniter. the Kawasaki engines are bad on these playing out. before you spend major dollars on one from mother Deere look in a Rotary Mower Parts Company catalog for one. Most small engine repair shops are familiar with the company. They most likely will have one for it.

I second the ignitor, they are cheap if you shop for them, Ebay is good. When we were mowing commercially and running Kaw engines we kept an ignitor in the glove box.

+3 on the ignitor.

And to add..
May want to check the choke cable for proper adjustment concerning the hard starting when cold.

Some Kawasaki's are cold nature'd and takes a lot of cranking to get them going..
